Mutate is a startup based in Stockholm, Sweden with a growing remote team. They’re on a bold and brave mission to democratize game creation, and to do that they are building a next generation UGC (user generated content) game-making and game-playing platform. Simply put, it’s a platform where anyone can create or make games with their friends aimed at teens and young adults. Accessibility and inclusiveness are a core part of Mutate’s product. Their vision: Anyone can be a creator. 

About the role

With the new funding in place, the scaleup phase is about to take place and this process is happening in several areas within Mutate. The product function is key in making this happen, so that the right features are developed in the right order. So with the aim of creating and validating a great product-market fit the product area needs structure and processes in order for the dev teams to drive the development in the most efficient direction. They need an experienced Head of Product that can both outline the product roadmap and also ensure a good structure in taking the decisions on what’s a “must” to have early and what can wait and what can be created by the users in terms of content etc. 

 As Mutate is building a platform for the users to create and share games in a fun and exciting way, we are searching for a Head of Product with the ability to see things grow and ensure that the creators and players have a great experience. Gaming experience is a great advantage but more for understanding the dynamics and joy in playing rather than a game producer’s point of view. 

 Responsibilities

  • Fundamentally set the product roadmap and structure in place to help with organizing the work ahead
  • Create an agile way of working around looping feedback from users and gamers into how to improve the product
  • Incorporate user testing within development
  • Decide which core problem/issues/features need to be in place now and later
  • Create a process for prioritizing what aspects need to get done in order to move forward

About you 

You may already have experience in taking a product platform and scaling it heavily, in an environment where creativity and playfulness meet user needs and growth. You see the difference in building a platform or game engine rather than releasing a game. You bring skills in Product Management and can drive a product roadmap forward combining your own resources with the use of players feedback and creators assets. 

To succeed in this role you need to have a product manager toolbox of experiences and be able to set structure at an early stage with an agile mindset to iterate improvements based on user feedback and data. It’s important to be familiar with the needs and wants of generation Z and understand what types of games they gravitate towards.  

Requirements

  • Several years of experience from a creative environment 
  • Experienced Product Manager being able to lead the organization through a structured development process
  • Experience from breaking down overall vision to smaller goals and roadmaps
  • Be able to prioritize “must haves” in features and product functions
  • Understanding the dynamics of multiplayer games, the growth potential in gaming UGC and what makes playing and creating together fun.
