Gameplay development Lead – Creative Play

Embark Studios is a Stockholm-based games studio, on a mission to blur the line between playing and making. They were founded by industry veterans in 2018 with the mission to empower everyone to create games.

They are now looking for a Gameplay development Lead to their Creative Play project.

About the role

As a Gameplay Development Lead and Senior Software Engineer at Embark you will be a game maker, using Rust to create a new definition of creative play. 

In this role you’ll be spending time prototyping new experiences no-one has ever heard of, side by side with creating actual gameplay for creative environments. To thrive with this project and at Embark you are senior as a problem solver and you love to share your learnings with others!

As a person, you are a mentor by heart and your collaboration skills are fully tuned after quite some time as a leader of complex projects in the industry. You know how to support peers all around the world and you feel fulfilled only when those team members are safe, included and motivated.

In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with the rest of the team and the studio; you’ll not only be a part of Embark’s mission to democratize the development of games and other interactive experiences, you will be part of building a team which are working within areas yet to be explored.

Example of responsibilities 

• Make sure team members feel safe, happy and on track
• Recruiting and onboarding new colleagues
• Having regular 1:1ns, make sure people feel seen and listened to
• Long-term career development of colleagues, coaching and salary reviews
• Design and implement software at multiple levels of the software stack
• Collaborate with designers, researchers and software engineers
• Turn “I wonder if we can…” into prototypes that help us evaluate ideas.

About you

To succeed in this role we believe that you have a creative and curious mind but we also see that you have:

• Leadership experience from complex projects, and remote teams
• Several years of experience as a game developer focusing on gameplay
• You have experience from professional game engines, using C++, Python, Rust or similar languages
• Experience with Roblox, Dreams, Super Mario Maker, or other “creation” games is favorable
• Professional English communication skills.
